Azul Barrientos

Yesterday I went to the concert of a great singer, Azul Barrientos.

Azul Barrientos is an amazing singer/songwriter, a gracious performer from Mexico. She keeps true to her roots as she takes us on a beautiful,  musicial adventure. She shares it with so much passion, love and believe that her concert takes you through a journey of emotions.

The first part of the concert, her proud mum watched her perform. Her heart full of pride and joy to witness her little girl’s on stage…

Her and her band (a set of also great musicians), Aaron Prado, George Prado and Nina Rodriguez take you on a phenomenal music journey. Don’t miss out on their next concert.

 

On the second part of the concert, “Little” Azul, shared the stage with her mum and for us, the audience it felt like we were in their living room observing the complicity and love between mother and daughter.

I was lucky enough to be able to photograph the concert and these images, I share with you today.

I was away from photography for a while as for some reason, I “lost” my inspiration, the connection with my camera and yesterday I remembered why I love photography, why I love to see moments through my lens.

LOVE WINS!

The streets may be paved with gold, but hearts have been chained to the bedposts.

On Friday, June 26th 2015, I stood among my American friends and experienced a great moment in the history of their country. EQUALITY:  the right for any individual to get married to whomever they LOVE.  The constitutional right to love and be loved without the infamous “Uncle Sam’s” invasion into their bedroom.

In my country, Portugal, same sex marriage has been legal for a while, so I was surprised when I first came to America and was forced to live under the goverments oppression of a person’s heart. Strange that a  country where the roads are said to be paved with gold was still living in the 19th century.

So let’s celebrate another step towards a better place, a more colorful world.

Due to my job, I wasn’t able to go out on Friday (6-26-2015) to witness and capture the moments of those who for the first time could officially celebrate their Love.

So today I decided to go down town to San Antonio’s gay friendly Main Ave. and share some of the colors of LOVE with you.

Second shooting for the first time… (LOL)

Where is the bride? By Sofia Tomas

Yes, it is true… It seems like I have started my career as a wedding photographer in an “unconventional” way, first I went solo and now I am having the great honor to second shoot. When I started shooting weddings back in Dubai, there was not a trend of having a second shooter at a wedding, maybe now it is more common but back in 2008 not really.

But in my heart I believe I always wanted to be the “second shooter” because of the freedom that comes with it!! So now even when I have a second shooter helping me, I “kind of” take on the role of the second shooter and I love it.

But in the past moth of April I have been very fortunate to have had the experience to second shoot with Philip Thomas, someone I admire as an artist and as a person.

Just by shooting alongside him, by observing him and form his feedback on my work I feel that I have improved a great deal.

It is always a blessing to be able to have as a mentor somebody that I admire and who, through his work and personality is an inspiration to me.

Engagement Shoot of Anita and Moises

Dear Followers, Brides & Grooms,

I know that you must been wandering why I have not been blogging in this past two weeks, well me too! Lol

I have been busy (gratefully busy) with photography work, but as well, honestly I was wondering what to write about, and than it occurred to me ” Sofia what about displaying your photography work? After all you are a photographer…”

So here I am showcasing some of my work.

I am going to start with an amazing engagement shoot with a great couple: Anita and Moises. We had so much fun doing it and the best part, I ended up playing soccer with Moises team! What a great outcome for me, since I have moved to San Antonio I have been trying to find a soccer team I could join! Oh and I got invited to their wedding date announcement party, am I lucky or what?!
